Old Joe's Kaia is a plant-based guest house in the Schoemanskloof, Mpumalanga — near Nelspruit (Mbombela) and perfectly placed for the Panorama Route, Kruger National Park, and Blyde River Canyon. We offer two styles of accommodation, each with its own character but sharing the same unhurried spirit. Whether you choose a freestanding rondavel or one of our kaia rooms, you'll wake to birdsong, not alarms — and to the smell of something good coming from The Seedling Kitchen.
All rooms are en suite and include fresh linen, organic toiletries, and cruelty-free amenities. Dinner and breakfast options are available.
The Rondavels
Three circular, thatched-roof units set apart from the main building, each with its own entrance and private outdoor space. Built in the traditional Southern African style, the rondavels are cool in summer, warm in winter, and quiet all year round.

The Kaia Rooms
Five semi-detached rooms in the main kaia building, sharing a covered verandah that looks out over the garden and the valley beyond. These rooms are closer to the kitchen, the library, and the heart of the property — ideal if you want to be near the action without being in it.

What to expect
No TVs
Each room has books and magazines instead. Wi-Fi is available in the main building — by design, not by oversight.
Slow down
No screens, no schedules. Just the garden, the birds, and as much quiet as you need.
Resident animals
Four resident cats and a dog call Old Joe's home. Please note: guest pets are not permitted.
Swimming pool
A garden pool for cooling off after a walk through the trees or a morning on the verandah.

Plant-based dinner and breakfast options are available. Think freshly baked bread, seasonal fruit, homemade preserves, and something warm from the stove.
Meals
All meals are prepared by The Seedling Kitchen. We do not offer self-catering facilities.
Getting here
We're on the N4 in the Schoemanskloof, between Machadodorp (eNtokozweni) and Nelspruit (Mbombela). Please use our directions — GPS can send you the wrong way.
Parking
